UPDATED JANUARY 9, 2012:
THE 2011 KING OF THE INLET IS "DECOY"

The Decoy is the real thing at King of the Inlet
In this three-leg offshore fishing tournament for Wahoo, Dolphin and King Mackerel the Decoy captured the lead in the second leg. Captain Scott Laney and the Decoy crew had a winning strategy and a good plan that held on to the lead to capture the title in the third and final leg of the King of the Inlet series. It was enough to earn this crew the title "King of the Inlet” as well as the $5,000 Grand Prize.
Stay tuned for announcements about next year's 2012 tournament dates.
Thank you to all our great fishermen and sponsors.
Sincerely,
The King of the Inlet Crew
Guy & Kelli Beasley
Pete & Ann Richardson

Congratulations to Team Hoyt for fishing a winning strategy. They were one of more than 50 teams that competed in the King of the Inlet series. The King of the Inlet fishermen faced it all this year – high winds, angry ocean, an abnormally cold spring, changing migratory patterns and stifling heat all played a part in this year’s series. In the end, consistency paid off for Team Hoyt. Check out the story about our winners in the Daytona Beach News Journal.

Daytona Beach, May 23, 2011…The second leg of the King of the Inlet tournament series is in the record books. Excellent weather and red hot fishing marked the weekend’s festivities. With over two hundred fishermen weighing their catch at Down the Hatch Seafood Company, this weekend provided a shakeup in the point standings!
King of the Inlet was formed by two tournament fishermen, Guy Beasley and Pete Richardson, who wanted to provide a different experience for other tournament anglers. With three tournaments to prove their skill, the anglers strategize to get the most points over the three tournament series. The boat with the most points at the end is crowned King of the Inlet.

Are You Ready To Become King Of The Inlet?
Once again, we are calling all anglers for the second annual King of the Inlet tournament series out of Ponce Inlet, Florida April 16, May 21 and June 11!
Frigate Ventures, LLC, a fishing enthusiast company owned by Guy Beasley and Pete Richardson, is again proud to present three fishing tournaments with an ultimate title and crowning of “King of the Inlet.”
“After years of fishing local tournaments, there was always a chance to win some money but no bragging rights were ever at stake,” said Guy. “With these tournaments, they can be fished as a one-time tournament entry, or if a person is interested in bragging rights, they can fish to be “King of the Inlet.”
Last year’s winner and reigning “King of the Inlet” is Team Hoyt. The winning crew of the “King of the Inlet” triple-crown were Fred Gumieny, Sr., Fred Gumieny, Jr. Donny Testa, Joey Spoerle and Randy Beardsley. They sealed their crown by running more than 200 miles round trip to catch a 24.5 pound Kingfish that gave them a 186 point final lead over their closest rival, Plum Nauti. Team Hoyt will be fishing all of the tournaments again in hopes of keeping their crown!
“King of the Inlet” is a series of three tournaments, and the Grand Prize of $5,000 is based on most points accumulated from the three tournaments…one fish per species – 10 points per pound.
And, to make the tournament even more exciting, there will be a double payout each month for a featured species depending on the migratory patterns of the fish. The April tournament pays double for Wahoo, the May tournament pays double for Dolphin, and the June tournament pays double for Kingfish.
Please note that all three tournaments are fishing for all three species of fish. Each tournament will have a captain’s meeting Friday before and an award ceremony Sunday after the tournament. There will be cash prizes and trophies for first, second and third place winners of each fish category for all tournaments.
“We’re doing this because we love the sport, and consequently, we’ve been able to add features to the “King of the Inlet” tournaments that we’ve always wanted from the hundreds of tournaments we’ve fished in the past,” commented Pete. “With this series, we are offering record high payouts!”
